15 Years of Rebuilding Lives

It seems impossible that we started the Grief and Loss Center fifteen years ago! I remember the fear that came from stepping into an uncertain future, mixed with the absolute joy of getting to walk alongside those who were grieving the death of a loved one. I never could have imagined we’d see 3,000+ clients over the next fifteen years. And I never knew my heart could hold so much love for each one of them.

It’s rare to get to live out one's passion. Typically, we secure a job hoping to do the things we most enjoy when we have time off. I am richly blessed to wake up each morning knowing I will have the privilege of talking with bereaved children, teens, and adults. I will have the joy of facilitating support groups that will become family to each other. I have the astounding opportunity to live out my passion each day.

Our precious clients have taught me so much along the way. I am often referred to as “a grief expert”. I always shudder when I hear these words because the true experts are the beautiful people who share their stories with me and teach me the nitty-gritty of grief. I have the letters behind my name, the certifications for what I do, the higher education degrees, and years and years of experience. However, all this pales in comparison to the true education and understanding that comes from each person I talk with. They share their pain, their feelings, and their thoughts with me. They are the most amazing teachers I have ever had the honor of learning from, and I am eternally grateful for them.

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to our clients, our Board of Directors, and our supporters. You are the ones who make it possible for us to continue our work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for fifteen years of incredible fulfillment and joy. You are simply the best.
